Queensland
TPS Energy is engaged as Owner's Engineer for a major data centre development in Queensland with a connection capacity of up to 500 MW. At this scale, grid connection is the critical path for the entire project: securing a viable connection point, on acceptable technical terms, within a workable timeframe determines whether the development proceeds at all. TPS Energy provides independent technical leadership across that pathway, representing the owner's interests at every stage.
The engagement begins with a feasibility study to establish network capacity, identify candidate connection points, and define the technical envelope for the development. This is followed by early engagement with Powerlink to test assumptions before formal processes commence, and preparation of the connection enquiry and subsequent application to connect. TPS Energy manages the grid studies required to demonstrate compliance with the National Electricity Rules, coordinates the AEMO assessment process, and leads negotiation of the connection agreement with Powerlink on the owner's behalf.
Managing this process end to end allows technical risk to be identified early, when it can still be designed out, rather than emerging late as a cost or delay. It also gives the owner a single point of technical accountability across the network service provider, the market operator, and the project's own design team.
Beyond grid connection, TPS Energy advises on the overall site layout plan, coordinating electrical infrastructure, buildings and access to support both the initial build and future expansion. The scope also covers dark fibre communications for data connectivity to the facility, and the water supply arrangements required to serve cooling demand at full operating capacity.
