TPS Energy Australia will support IEEE PES AUPEC 2026 as a Bronze Sponsor, backing the 36th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference as it returns to Tasmania this November.

Hosted by the University of Tasmania and the IEEE Power & Energy Society, the conference will run from 2 to 6 November 2026 at the University Centre Building, UTAS Sandy Bay, under the theme "Smart, Sustainable and Secure: Shaping the Next Generation Grid." Chaired by Professor Michael Negnevitsky, AUPEC brings together academics, researchers, students, and practising engineers from across Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia to share the research and technology shaping the future of power systems.

A Home-Ground Conference for Tasmania's Energy Sector

For a Hobart-based developer, the timing could not be better. AUPEC's 2026 program covers the ground TPS Energy works in every day – renewable energy systems, grid integration, energy storage at both C&I and utility scale, microgrids and remote power systems, power system operation and planning, and the resilience of the networks that tie it all together.

Tasmania sits at the centre of several of those conversations. As the state builds out new generation and storage behind an existing hydro backbone, the questions being debated in the lecture theatres at Sandy Bay are the same ones being worked through on project sites and in grid connection studies across the state. Sponsoring AUPEC 2026 is TPS Energy's way of helping keep that exchange between the university sector and industry moving in both directions.

Recognising the Next Generation

Beyond the company's sponsorship, TPS Energy Chairman Dr. Tien Ho has been appointed Award Chair on the AUPEC 2026 Local Organizing Committee. In the role, Dr. Ho will help oversee the conference's awards program, including the recognition of outstanding papers and student research presented across the week.

It is a role that sits close to the company's founding purpose. TPS Energy was established in Hobart in 2019 and has since delivered work for TasNetworks and Hydro Tasmania while building a pipeline of solar and battery storage projects across the state – a business built, from the beginning, on technical depth. Supporting the students and early-career researchers who will carry that work forward is a natural extension of it.

Meet TPS Energy in Hobart

As part of its sponsorship, TPS Energy will host an exhibition table in the conference exhibition area throughout the event, with team members on hand across the technical sessions, the Welcome Reception, and the Conference Dinner.

Delegates, students, and industry colleagues are warmly invited to stop by, whether to talk through a project, discuss grid connection and owner's engineer services, or hear about opportunities to join the team.
